Proud Iowan, family man, attorney, and dedicated public servant.
First elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, State Senator Nate Boulton represents north and east Des Moines and Pleasant Hill in the Iowa Senate. After the 2021 redistricting process, Nate’s district was changed to include Altoona and southern Ankeny as well. Nate, his wife Andrea, and their daughters Gwyn and Alys, live in the Grand View Park area of east Des Moines. Outside the legislature, Nate is a practicing workers’ rights attorney who has represented individuals who have suffered workplace injuries or have been wrongfully terminated as well as serving as a lawyer for several labor unions in their representation of Iowa workers.

State Senator Nate Boulton is running for re-election in the November 2024 general election. Thank you in advance for your support.
Working Toward a Better Iowa
As Iowa Republicans continue to attack the personal freedoms of our citizens, Nate Boulton is fighting to protect those freedoms. From his first days in the statehouse supporting the collective bargaining rights of union workers to defending our rural communities rights to quality education, Iowans know that Nate Boulton is fighting for them.
Strong Public Schools.
Advocating for robust public education, I've supported increased funding for schools struggling with inflation, championed teacher empowerment in wages and learning environments, and opposed legislation harming special needs services. I've fought against private school vouchers, ensuring diverse post-grad options including universities, colleges, and trade apprenticeships for Iowa students.
Support Working Families.
Restore collective bargaining rights for public workers in Iowa, introduced Iowa’s first comprehensive paid family leave legislation, raising the minimum wage, bring back lost workers compensation benefits and restore lost unemployment benefits for seasonal workers and workers impacted by plant closures.
Safer, Stronger Communities.
I’ve supported infrastructure improvements and done so by preferences to favor the use of American made, and Iowa made, products in public construction. I’ve supported expanded law enforcement training and operations to keep communities safe, and taking better care of first responders injured in the line of duty.
A healthier Iowa.
Delivering quality health care for Iowans, including mental health services and reproductive health care and freedom. I served on the Hawk-I board to help ensure kids got the care they needed, and drafted a bill that passed the senate unanimously to cover treatment needed for children with a specific pediatric neurophysiological illness. I’ve stood strong against the attacks on reproductive health care and choice.
Protecting Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation.
I am an outdoors enthusiast who values environmental protection and conservation. From hunting and fishing to hiking, running, and biking— our family enjoys outdoor recreation in Iowa. Enhancing and promoting our natural resources in our state needs to be a priority again. And coming from rural Iowa where my family still has a heritage farm, I understand how Iowa can thrive as a farming state while ensuring our air, soil, and water quality are protected.
It's About The Next Generation
As the father of two young daughters, Nate cares deeply about the future of our state and nation. Like our parents and grandparents before, Nate believes that we must do everything we can to protect our children today, and ensure a prosperous future.

If you are unhappy with the direction that Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Republicans are taking us, and believe that Iowa can and should do better, we invite you to join Nate's campaign for re-election in November 2024.
